Arnhem - A Bridge Too Far

Book an exclusive tour to Arnhem, Eindhoven and Nijmegen to explore the fateful Operation Market Garden.

In the summer of 1944, the Allies launched a daring operation to secure the Rhine crossings which would pave the way for access into Germany. Although Market Garden would end in failure for the Allies, the sheer courage shown by soldiers and paratroopers ensured this campaign would go down as one of the most famous in Second World War history.

After collecting you from a convenient location, we travel to the Netherlands and begin our historical journey at Joe's Bridge - the jumping off point for XXX Corps.

Arnhem bridge

We make our way to Grave Bridge and onto Groesbeek Heights to hear about the actions of 82nd Airborne Division. We get into detail exploring Nijmegen and the actions in and around the town. This gives us time to discuss the Dutch experience of war and the resistance movement.

We head to the drop zone of the 1st Airborne Division and follow in the footsteps of 2 Para to Arnhem Bridge. In the afternoon, we follow the fighting in and around Arnhem.

We rejoin the 1st Airborne Division in Arnhem and follow the stories of the soldiers as they they try to hold the perimeter. We visit the excellent Airborne museum at Oosterbeek. We walk the perimeter and finish the day by paying our respects at Oosterbeek Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery.

You’ll be in the company of Jo Hook, widely regarded as the best guide covering Operation Market Garden. Jo has been sharing history here with clients for more than 16 years and has made many documentaries on this part of Second World War history.
